Title: SepDIC Knowledge Resource
Target audience: General physicians, intensivists, critical care specialists, haematologists and paediatricians
Sponsor: This SepDIC website and knowledge resource is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Baxter Healthcare SA
Subject: This educational resource provides doctors with an educational programme to facilitate learning about coagulation physiology and the causes and consequences of sepsis. It also acts as a diagnostic tool to assist diagnosis and covers the current guidelines on best clinical practice in sepsis
Objectives: The objectives of this SepDIC website are to:
  • Learn about the physiology of coagulation, the causes of disease and the best practice guidelines for sepsis
  • Evaluate, through use of the classification SepDIC calculator, sepsis risk and prognosis
  • Review the rationale for best practice care using the Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines
  • Review treatment modalities and rationale

Instructions

The SepDIC knowledge resource presents 5 sections of educational material regarding sepsis, including the SepDIC risk and prognosis calculator which can be found within the Sepsis-related Coagulopathies section. These sections are followed by a dedicated section on the 2008 Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines, an active discussion forum and a page of useful links to other websites. The resource will function like any website, with menus and sub-menus and downloadable files. For learning purposes we propose moving through the site in a linear fashion.

Registering on the SepDIC knowledge resource

  • Please click on register at the top left of the homepage the first time you visit the site
  • You will be taken to a separate window to register your details
  • Please fill in all statutory fields
  • You will then be taken to the welcome page
  • Note: registration details will not be passed onto third parties and will remain confidential. Your registration details will only be used for validating your log-in details

Accessing the learning sections

  • Use the menu on the left to move to a specific section
  • Or click on the previous, next icons to progress through the site

Completing the learning sections

  • Each section is split into chapters
  • The diagrams and tables can be enlarged and copied
  • Resources such as the calculator and guidelines can be downloaded
